Priority

Convention priority may be claimed (priority term 6 months), and must be claimed on filing the application; priority document (certified copy of the application whose priority is claimed) must be filed within three months from filing the application for registration, failing which the priority will be lost. Exhibition priority is provided for as well: persons entitled to the benefits of the Paris Convention or the Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization (WTO) who have displayed goods or services under a mark at a national or international exhibition in Turkey or at an official or officially recognized national or international exhibition in a Paris Convention member country, when applying for registration of the mark in Turkey may claim priority provided the application is filed within 6 months from the first display of the goods or services under the mark (in case of first display of the goods or services prior to the official opening date of the exhibition, the priority term will start from such first display). A certificate from the competent authorities specifying the nature of the goods or type of the services for which the mark was used, the date of first display of the mark and the date of opening of the exhibition must be filed on filing the application for registration. Exhibition priority cannot extend the Convention priority term.
