5 years from the date of filing the application for registration, four times renewable with a further 5-year period, so that the maximum duration of a design registration is 25 years from the filing date. Renewal must be applied for and the required renewal fee be paid during the six months preceding the last day of the month in which the registration period ends; grace six months, with surcharge. If a design registration has not been renewed and the required renewal fee not been paid in time nor, with the applicable surcharge, within the six-month grace period, the registration shall lapse, no restoration.
